No acne and my skin isn’t a dehydrated train wreck! Be you and don’t hold back. I've been using it since, haven't used facewash one time since then either. Thanks for the update. Has anyone else had a bad experience with oil cleansing. No, we’re not talking about the Southern breakfast delicacy. I stopped using it. Do you have any advice on making it easier to spread over the entire face before absorbing? The origins and present factors for one person's skin type (even if it is seemingly exactly the same as your own) are way too unique to just have one measly answer. If your gentle cleanser is getting it done then I am just as happy for you as you are for me! Are certain oils better for different things? You might have used the wrong coconut oil, try extra virgin from a reliable source, I had the same thing with my hair, it was falling out to the point of almost being gone, there was some nasty cheap coconut oil in it! It might also be the specific cleanser - DHC has an olive oil base which can be irritating for some people. Anyone can try it. I’ll admit, I have asked myself a couple of times “what are people going to say about me once this post goes live?”, but if I had let those thoughts take over my desire to inspire and help others, you would not be reading this right now. X. During the process of massaging my face, it could actually pulled out some blackhead out of my face! I have been putting moisturizer on first, then letting it dry, is that incorrect? It must be working!’ I was excited. I think it may have been oil since it felt like everything before this was either keeping or stripping my skin very dry and I could imagine (warning: I have no assurance of this) my skin trying to compensate by overproducing oil under those dry areas for it only to be locked between my skin's broken barrier with no real pathway for healthy surfacing causing my pores to clog underneath. After you apply moisturizer and tretinoin, wait 20-30 minutes, then apply a facial oil (like squalane oil) or an occlusive (like Vaseline, Aquaphor, or Cerave Healing Ointment). ), and hemp seed oil which is great for acne. I missed being me. If you have any more questions, add them as comments and I will address/update as needed. I think part of the reason people experience such great success with this type of cleansing is that in people with dehydrated oily skin, overcleansing skin causes more oil production, but most of the products geared toward oily skin are about removing dirt and oil which can actually make it worse and cause 'rebound oil production.' When my mom & sister would say to me “Maybe this isn’t working for you Lydia… Maybe you should stop.” why was I so damn stubborn and refused to take their advice? It wasn’t until I got to the final step, massaging the second round of oil cleanser forcibly, that I was doing something different. Oil cleansing is a great way to remove waterproof makeup or sunscreen, and reduce the dryness that comes from using a regular cleanser. “Anything can be a miracle, a blessing, an opportunity if you choose to see it that way.” – Oprah. One of the biggest lessons this experience has taught me is how to be patient. OCM does work, but only if you understand whats really going on and use the correct oil! Except now that I've quit the oil cleansing treatment, it's not really working. It really shows the amazing work God’s been doing in your life. My face did feel especially soft afterward, like I cleared out my blackheads, but it didn’t look or feel as satisfyingly gross as expected. Thick as thieves, all of you!!!! I think you have to be patient in figuring out what works for you. Your skin looks beautiful, and it healed so quickly! Nothing works. I am going through the same thing right now and I feel connected with your story ….. Thank you so much for sharing ❤, I’m sorry this happened to you. Oh my God i was searching about how grapeseed oil will work as an OCM and this brought me here. I thought the more good things I put on my face, the better it would be. It’s easy for us to share the good, happy stories. Or just too much oil settling in your pores? Congratulations! I used it with some success for a while, but then tried (stupidly) adding in additional actives. Thank you for giving me my confidence back. I know this is probably too late, but I developed incredibly awful cystic acne after trying the OCM with coconut oil. And it's impossible to get it 100% off without a full wash. My skin has also lost the ability to absorb anything--I had to stop wearing sunscreen because the product would just sit on my skin. I strongly recommend trying OCM even if only to reset your thinking about skincare and your skin. I never realized I was dehydrated until I tried the OCM. I’ve had it all along, but it wasn’t until I lost it all, longed for it, and slowly started getting back piece by piece that I was finally able to open my eyes and see the light. Dr. Weiser says the best way to use oil as a cleanser is by gently massaging the oil into the skin … I hated life. Hi everyone! Rarely am I ever just working on one thing at a time or rarely do I ever unplug from all the social media notifications that blow up my phone. That's what I'm doing. I've tried alternating nights, still the same effect. This method can, in a small percentage of acne prone people, cause super crazy bad breakouts. When I used tretinoin, I only used it 2 times per week, sometimes 3 times per week if I thought my skin could handle it. I was too ashamed and prideful to even share any of this with my friends. From here you should be able to make very well formulated guesses on where to start for all of your unique needs. So breathe, relax, do yoga, eat good food, talk to a friend on the phone, laugh, play with your dog and trust that you will be okay. But I choose life. You have to be carful what kind it is on your face, in fact everywhere! (I know you said you found something you're happy with, just wanted to throw that out there in case anyone else is on the fence about OCM.). Anything can happen to anyone at any time, so don’t ever take anything for granted and think ‘Oh that’s never going to happen to me’ because life can do crazy things and catch you off-guard sometimes.
